Overview

The Cuisinart Extreme Brew DCC-2650, a newer model, is very similar to the Cuisinart DCC-2600 model.

When first compared the two models can appear to be twins, however, with the addition of several functional enhancements the DCC-2650 is definitely the newer, faster and more powerful coffee brewer.

The DCC-2650 has a sleek design and multiple brewing features that enhances the coffee in your cup.

New Extreme Brew Technology

The most impactful improvement that the DCC-2650 features is the introduction of Cuisinart’s revolutionary Extreme Brew Technology that promises to brew coffee 25% faster than an average coffee maker.

For Cuisinart coffee brewers that were manufactured before the DCC-2650, the largest complaint was that their brewers had one of the longest brewing times in the industry. An entire brew cycle could take as long as 15 minutes!

The DCC-2650 has the ability to brew a cup of coffee every 30 seconds which is a vast improvement when compared to previous Cuisinart models.

For those who want a warm cup as quickly as possible, this is very exciting news!

In our humble coffee drinking opinion, Extreme Brew Technology is a feature worthy of your consideration.

No Ordinary Drip Coffee Machine

The Cuisinart DCC-2650 has an Extreme Brew feature which allows it to brew drip coffee 25% faster.

Those who have used a coffee drip machine know that traditional coffee brewers can take a while to brew. This can be a huge pain if you are in a hurry or want your caffeine fix as quickly as possible.

The other difference between the DCC-2650 in comparison to other Cuisinart models is the glass carafe.

Older Cuisinart models use an extra large, 14- cup carafe. This has been downgraded in the newer DCC-2650, which instead uses a 12 ounce carafe.

The smaller carafe was introduced by Cuisnart most likely as a way to ensure a quicker brew time.

With the DCC-2650 brewing a cup about every 30 seconds, the larger carafe would have added an entire minute to the machine’s brewing time.

For us, the smaller carafe is not a deal breaker being it has a very minimal impact on our overall coffee drinking and brewing experience.

You will find that the 12 cup carafe size is in alignment with industry standards, providing a decent amount of coffee.

Extreme Brew Technology

The biggest update that Cuisinart lovers are buzzing about is the introduction of the Extreme Brew feature which uses re-engineered brewing technology to deliver coffee up to 25% faster!

This update is a big deal for those who want the experience of a drip coffee maker without the hassle of waiting a long time for your coffee to brew.

With Extreme Brew Technology you can expect an entire 12 cup carafe to be brewed in approximately 6 minutes.

Great tasting coffee combined with a time saving brewing feature are both major selling points of the DCC-2650.

Carafe

The DCC-2650 comes equipped with a 12 cup carafe that considers functionality throughout its design.

The carafe includes an ergonomic handle, dripless spout and knuckle guard which makes pouring and placing the carafe back into the coffee maker as easy as possible.

Another feature to be aware of is the adjustable carafe temperature control function that allows you to adjust the carafe temperature to high, medium or low.

This ensures you can have your coffee kept at your preferred temperature every time you brew.

One item that is important to mention about brewing temperature is that there are claims that the Cuisinart DCC-2650 does not brew as hot of a cup of coffee as users would like.

Although Cusinart claims their machines brew in a temperature range of 180 to 190 degrees Fahrenheit, it has been documented that actual brewing temperature is falling a bit lower in the 170° – 175° degree Fahrenheit range.

Even at the lower temperature range, you will still get a decently hot cup of joe. However, if extra hot cups of coffee are your preference this may be a factor to consider.

Seeking an extra hot cup? Check out our review of the Keurig K-Supreme, which brews at the optimal temperature of 192 degrees Fahrenheit.

Auto-Shut Off

Auto-Shut off is an economical, environmentally friendly and convenient feature to have built into your coffee brewer.

The DCC-2650 allows you to program your Cuisinart coffee maker to automatically shut off after 0  to 4 hours of non-use.

Your electric bill will be sure to thank you for this feature!

Programmability

Do you like waking up to the sweet aroma of fresh coffee being brewed? If you answered yes, then buying a coffee maker with programmable options is a feature you should strongly consider.

The DCC-2650 is fully programmable, which means you can set your coffee to start brewing at any time day or night that you want it to.

We are huge fans of the programmable option, as it is nice to start the day with coffee hot and ready to go!

One other feature that we are huge fans of is the auto-clean function.

This function allows you to clean your coffee machine by simply selecting the setting on your brewing machine. This makes maintenance and cleaning of your DCC-2650 as easy as it can get!

Strength Control

Having customizable options while brewing, allows you to make your perfect cup every time you brew! The DCC-2650 comes equipped with a regular or bold brewing option.

The bold brew option, as the name suggests, brews a bolder cup of coffee.

This is accomplished by steeping the coffee beans longer in water during the brewing process.

If you aren’t a fan of strong coffee, don’t worry! You can opt for the regular brew setting.

Charcoal Water Filter

The DCC-2650 has a replaceable water filter that removes any impurities in the water you will be brewing your coffee with. This ensures that all you taste in your cup is your favorite coffee and none of the additives that you can find in water.

One thing you will want to be aware of is that the charcoal water filter for the DCC-2650 will need to be replaced every two months.

Fortunately, the charcoal filters can be bought in bulk and are very inexpensive.

The charcoal filters are easy to install, and will remove impurities such as calcium and chlorine, resulting in a richer tasting cup which makes this minor maintenance task worth it in our opinion!

Gold Tone Coffee Filter

Another environmentally friendly option is the gold tone coffee filter that comes with the DCC-2650.

The gold tone filter is a permanent coffee filter that eliminates the need to use paper filters. As an added bonus, using the gold tone filter will aid in brewing full flavored, robust coffee.

Using the gold tone filter is easy. Once brewing is complete you simply lift the gold tone filter out of the brewer, rinse it and place it back into the machine where it will be ready for the next time you brew.

If you prefer, the convenience of paper filters you can also use those in place of the gold tone filter.

Water Reservoir

The DCC-2650 comes equipped with a generous 60 ounce removable water reservoir. The water reservoir also has a water level indicator so you can see when your brewing machine needs a refill.

A removable water tank allows you to remove the water tank from the machine in order to easily refill it with water. Once the water is refilled, you simply place the water reservoir back into the Cuisinart brewer.

Brew Pause

Brew pause is one of our favorite features. This feature allows you to enjoy a cup of coffee before the brewing cycle is complete.

To use you simply remove the carafe during brewing, brewing will automatically  pause and you can then pour yourself a cup. Once you place the carafe back into the machine brewing resumes.

This is a great feature for those who don’t want to wait for the 6 minute brewing cycle to complete before enjoying a cup!

Cozy’s Bottom Line

The Cuisinart DCC-2650 comes jam packed with convenient features such as 24 hour programmability, Brew Pause, Self Clean and so much more! The introduction of Extreme Brew technology ensures you receive your cup of coffee as quickly as possible, reducing overall brew time by 25%.

Temperature control on this model still continues to be a challenge experienced by Cuisnart users. Although a slightly lower temperature is not an overall deal breaker, it is something you will want to consider before purchasing.

Overall, the Cuisinart is a reliable and easy-to-use machine that should make most coffee lovers happy! If you are still unsure if this brewing machine is for you, you should also consider a grind and brew coffee maker.

Wishing you happy coffee drinking! Cheers!
