Nespresso Evoluo Review

One of Nespresso’s most versatile and luxurious coffee and espresso brewing machines, the Nespresso Evoluo has the ability to brew a large variety of drinks. With its simple one touch design, it is the perfect choice for those who want to enjoy a gourmet drink with no time commitment.

The Evoluo brews 0.3 to 17 ounces of coffee and boasts the largest water reservoir and used capsule capacity of any Nespresso machine in the Vertuoline. Combined with the fact that the Evoluo also has one of the shortest brew times of 15 seconds available on the market today, it is hard to find a reason to not like the Evoluo! Single-serve brewing machines, such as Nespresso, have gained popularity due to their ability to brew a hot cup at the push of a button. The two main single-serve brewing brands available on the market today are Nespresso and Keurig. Both brands offer machines that are worthy of your purchase.

The Evoluo brews espresso and coffee at the touch of a button using Nespresso capsules to create drinks that feature Nespresso’s signature crema on top. When purchasing the Nespresso Evoluo you will also receive a welcome set that includes 12 fragrant and smooth gourmet blends of Nespresso Vertuo capsules. In addition, you can opt to add Nespresso’s integrated milk frother, the Aeroccino (if you choose to purchase) as well as instructions.

Like any luxury kitchen appliance, you will want to know the pros and cons of the brewer so you can make a sound investment in a machine that will best fit your needs. Below we tell you all about what we like and what you should be aware of when looking to purchase a Evoluo:

Pros

  • Multiple drink sizes available
  • Vast selection of capsules, blends and roasts
  • Hybrid machine that can brew both coffee and espresso
  • Knows how to brew your drink based on capsule you pick
  • Brews quickly, in under 60 seconds
  • Large water reservoir

Cons

  • Coffee isn’t as hot as Nespresso OriginalLine machines
  • Integrated Milk Frother has to be purchased separately for the machine

How does the Nespresso Evoluo Compare?

The Nespresso Evoluo is a machine in Nespresso’s espresso and coffee brewing VertuoLine.  The Nespresso Evoluo offers the most extensive features out of all brewers in the VertuoLine, making it an excellent choice if you want a heavy duty single-serve brewer that can be used regularly to brew coffee and espresso drinks.

The chart below provides a comparison of the key features between models in the Nespresso VertuoLine. As you will see, the Evoluo offers several upgraded features, such as a large capacity 60 ounce water reservoir, that other machines in this same line don’t. If you are interested in a machine that has a smaller footprint than the Evoluo the VertuoPlus options are also great to consider. Nespresso Evoluo Buyers Guide

Below, we get into every reason why the Nespresso Evoluo is the perfect coffee maker or espresso machine for any coffee aficionado.

Easy Set Up

As they say, sometimes the most simple things can bring the most happiness! If you are looking for joy in your cup, then the Nespresso Evoluo is a great choice for you. You will begin to experience the simplicity of the Nespresso machine from the moment you open it. With minimal parts, you can have your Nespresso out of the box and ready to brew in no time.

Innovative Brewing

The Vertuo line, which the Evoluo is a part of, utilizes innovative barcode scanning technology that reads the barcode embedded on the capsules and communicates with the machine to tell it which cup size, temperature, rotational speed, flow rate and time the water should be in contact. One of the hallmarks of Nespresso is the consistency in which all their machines brew. Nespresso’s technology is designed to provide you with a consistent cup every time you use it.

Similar to the VertuoPlus model the Evoluo offers versatility in not only the drinks you brew but the cup sizes offered. The Nespresso Evoluo brews 5 different sizes, which includes: Alto Coffee (14 oz), Coffee (8oz), Gran Lungo (5 oz), Double Espresso (2.7 oz) and Espresso (1.35 oz). Each capsule delivers the finest roast and ground coffee sealed in a single-serve portion for optimal freshness. The Evoluo also has a removable drip tray to accommodate larger cups and travel size mugs.

Additionally, the Evoluo makes brewing your drinks as simple as possible. You select the capsule you wish to brew, pop it into the Evoluo and the machine does the rest. This eliminates the need to measure water, determine bean to water ratio or adjust settings. It doesn’t get much more user friendly as that!

Capsule Collection

Nespresso uses high quality capsules to brew rich espresso.

With high quality blends and indulgent flavors Nespresso prides itself in the quality of coffee offered in their capsules. The Evoluo has multiple coffee blends that have their own unique intensity, taste and caffeine content. This offers a one-of-a-kind drinking experience that includes Nespresso’s signature rich crema topping in every cup.

As an added bonus, you can enhance your espresso with frothed milk made from a Nespresso Aeroccino milk frother, an additional option for the Evoluo that Cozy will discuss in more detail down below.

The Evoluo is a part of the Nespresso Vertuo line, which means the brewer must be paired with a Vertuo capsule type in order to brew. Nespresso capsules are made exclusively for the machine it is designed for. This means the Nespresso Vertuo capsules will not be compatible with other Nespresso machines that are not in the Nespresso Vertuo line and vice versa.

The Evoluo has the following capsule collections available:

Espresso

Double Espresso

Gran Lungo (Americano)

Alto XL

Cleaning

Day-to-day cleaning for the Nespresso Evoluo is very basic, most days your Nespresso will only require a quick wipe down if that. Since the Evoluo uses aluminum capsules, there are no messy coffee grinds to clean up after.

One of Cozy’s favorite features on the Nespresso Evoluo is the empty capsule storage container on the machine. When your machine is done brewing, the capsule is automatically deposited into the capsule storage container which can hold up to 17 empty capsules. If you opt to add the Aeroccino milk frother, it is recommended you clean it right away since it will contain dairy products.

Like all single serve home brewers, you will need to descale your machine. Nespresso recommends you descale your machine every 3 months or every 300 brews, whichever comes first. Descaling removes the calcium deposits, also referred to as scale, that build up inside the Nespresso over time. It is important to note that calcium and scale are non-toxic, but left unattended, it can negatively affect your brewer’s performance over time.

The Crema on Top

One of the hallmarks of Nespresso’s drinks is the layer of crema that is on top of each cup you brew. The release of the Nespresso Vertuo line, including the Nespresso Evoluo, introduced an upgraded crema that is even thicker and fluffier than the Original!

Nespresso users are split on how they prefer their crema, many liking the thicker fluffier cream of the Vertuo line. However, some feel the cream is a little too much for their liking.

Water Reservoir

Go big or go home! That is Cozy’s motto when it comes to water reservoir capacity. Luckily, this is one area where the Nespresso Evoluo does not disappoint. The Nespresso Evoluo boasts a 54 ounce water reservoir. Additionally, the Evoluo’s water reservoir is fully removable, which makes it very accessible and easy to refill.

The Nespresso Evoluo boasts a 60 ounce water reservoir. Additionally, the Evoluo’s water reservoir is fully removable, which makes it very accessible and easy to refill.

A larger water reservoir is a very convenient feature in that the number of times you will have to refill between brews will be less the larger the machine’s water reservoir is. When comparing options between machines, this is one feature Cozy recommends you should seriously consider.

Milk Frother

For those who enjoy a cloud of frothed milk to enjoy with their drink of choice, then a Nespresso Aeroccino milk frother may be a good feature for you to consider adding to your Evoluo purchase. If you opt to buy the Aeroccino when you purchase the machine, you can purchase it as a package.

The Aeroccino has the ability to make cold foam as well as hot milk foam and is a good compliment to the Evoluo if you would like to have the capability to froth milk for your drinks. Are you looking for a frother with options? The Aeroccino  works at the push of a button. It also has 4 frothing modes: latte, cappuccino, hot milk and cold foam.

The Aeroccino is independent of the Evoluo, but is designed to attach to the machine. It also detaches for easy cleaning after use.

Value

The Nespresso Evoluo is competitively priced when compared to other pod brewing machines. With a large variety in drinks, that is expanded if you opt for the Aeroccino, the drinks you can make are truly endless. Nespresso’s are durable, and often have a 6 to 10 year life span if cared for properly.

Cozy’s Bottom Line

The Evoluo is set apart by its ability to brew both coffee and espresso at the touch of a button. This alone makes the Nespresso Evoluo arguably one of the most versatile single-serve coffee makers available on the market today.

If you are looking for a smaller machine or prefer less crema Cozy recommends you consider a smaller Nespresso from the Original line such as the CitiZ

Either way we hope you find joy in every cup!
